Plans are in to create a ‘spa garden’ for York, with its own pool and sauna.
David Lloyd Clubs, the gym off Windmill Lane, wants to convert its basketball court into the new facility.
“The proposed external spa garden will aim to maximise the club’s site to provide external facilities for members year-round,” a planning application states.
The site “currently comprises disused, neglected land housing a redundant sports court and a lawned area”, documents say.
The plan is to transform the plot:
“Part of David Lloyd’s cultural transformation has been to increase mindfulness and wellbeing through investing in a number of their key facilities by expanding its spa facilities on-site and introduce outdoor Spa Gardens.
“David Lloyd York currently has limited spa facilities, with no facilities provided outdoors.
“There have been numerous requests for the upgrading of the current facilities from club members.
“In summary, the proposed development will comprise: New spa garden facility to include a sauna, hydro pool and fire pit (249 sqm).”
According to the design brief, the spa pool will be finished in mosaic ceramic tiling, while the sauna walls finished will have horizontal timber cladding.
It would be illuminated in the evenings by “low intensity light sources”.
And there would be “feature underwater lighting incorporated into the spa pool”.
