Opened last August, Borgo Santandrea became the first new luxury hotel to open on the Amalfi Coast in 15 years. Following a careful and meticulous four-year restoration to the building, the Orlacchio and De Siano families have turned it into a design haven, decking it out with mid-century touches and vintage furniture, with some pieces dating back to the 1920s. The aesthetic is a refreshing alternative to the typical Italian aesthetic found at most properties along this coastal paradise, but there are still elements that give it a sense of place, such as the hand-painted tiles, of which there are 31 varieties, and terraced gardens filled with olive and lemon trees.

The 45-key hotel boasts spacious and well-outfitted digs, with rooms starting at 301 square feet and majority of the accommodations feature both a tub and walk-in shower while all have views of the sea. Additional thoughtful touches include heated bathroom floors and towel racks alongside luxurious amenities like Smeg kettles and coffee makers, Klipsch speakers, Once Milano linens, and Dedar and Rubelli textiles. The blue and white color palette spans throughout the entire property, down to the smallest details like the navy Dyson hairdryer and Acqua di Parma toiletries.

But for those looking for a romantic getaway, the pool suites are well worth the splurge. With eight suites outfitted with heated infinity pools overlooking the sea, Borgo Santandrea has the most out of any hotel on the Amalfi Coast. These decadent accommodations also feature furnished terraces with sunbeds and an outdoor shower. And if you’re traveling as a group or with family, there’s also an option to combine two of these rooms, sequestered by a separate door, for extra space and privacy.

In addition to the sumptuous accommodations, Borgo Santandrea offers a wealth of dining options and facilities, making it arguably the best hotel on the Amalfi Coast. The property currently has three restaurants, two bars, and a wine cellar, with a forthcoming pizzeria slated to open in June. It’s an impressive offerings for a hotel with just 45 rooms, and one that’s well worth exploring. For breakfast, guests wander throughout the kitchen of Alici, where you’ll find a generous array of bread, fruit, hot items, and pastries, with additional entrees ordered from your table on the terrace. The space serves as an all-day restaurant, but in the afternoon, you’ll also be able to stop by for complimentary treats like lemonade, cookies, and more. Then there’s the Beach Restaurant and Bar down at the property’s beach club, where fresh seafood and pasta are a must, is an ideal spot for lunch by the water.

The amuse-bouche at La Libreria

Once the sun starts to set, make sure to head over to La Terrazza Bar for an aperitivo—choose from classic and signature cocktails as well as a mix of spritzes—followed by a dinner at La Libreria, the hotels’ gastronomic restaurant. Here, Ischian chef Crescenzo Scotti offers five different tasting menus, including pescatarian and vegetarian options, with a focus on seasonal and local ingredients. Scotti has worked at numerous Michelin-starred establishments throughout Italy, including Le Calandre, Agli Amci, managing the restaurants at Therasia Resort, and most recently at Hotel Villa Cimbrone’s Il Flauto di Pan in nearby Ravello. The menu kicks off with an amuse-bouche that’s cheekily presented on a miniature dining table, paired with a pizzetta made with steamed milk bread. From there, a symphony of dishes follow, each more creative and thoughtful than the last. It’s a meal to remember—particularly the final dessert, which is the chef’s take on a lighter version of tiramisu, playfully served in an espresso cup—and undoubtedly one of the best in the area.

To help facilitate a blissful vacation, there’s an on-site spa with a dry sauna, experiential shower, and an outdoor treatment room. For guests who like to maintain a workout regimen while traveling, the fitness center is outfitted with Technogym machinery and faces the sea, offering incredible views while exercising. Afterward, a dedicated terrace just off the room is an idyllic place to cool down and unwind. But no visit to this delightful destination would be complete with time spent by or on the water. There’s of course a pool, but it’s the property’s beach club that’s the crown jewel. The only hotel in the area with direct access to a private beach, it’s complete with an aforementioned restaurant and bar; plenty of sunbathing loungers for guests to relax in; as well as complimentary non-motorized watersports equipment at your disposal.
