Coffee isn't only for drinking.
We all deserve to rest and relax, a little self-care if you will. What better way to treat yourself than getting a massage? I did just that recently at Elaia Spa, located in Hyatt at Olive 8. It's one of (they say the biggest) spas in Seattle, and the perfect peaceful oasis in the middle of the city's hustle and bustle.
Elaia Spa has a dozen treatment rooms, where they offer a variety of face, body and massage treatments. When you book an appointment, you get access to all the spa's amenities for the entire day — including a pool, hot tub, fitness center, steam room and dry sauna. Before your appointment, you wait in their relaxation room, boasting comfy chairs, tea, snacks and windows looking out into the city.
While there are a bunch of treatments to choose from, I went full Seattle mode and chose their Seattle Coffee Sugar Scrub & Massage. I am a big coffee gal, and if you are from Seattle, you know how this city feels about coffee. So, of course, I had to try this treatment.
The Seattle Coffee Sugar Scrub & Massage ($225 for 90 minutes) is meant "to balance the nervous system, uplift emotions and improve energy, skin and digestion." The massage therapist who did my treatment was Jen, and she was a gem. She made me feel at ease and taken care of while making sure I was completely relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire 90 minutes.
The treatment began with a body scrub using their exfoliating polish, which consisted of cane sugar, locally roasted Victrola Coffee and cocoa powder. This portion refreshes the complexion and stimulates circulation. My skin was baby soft after this scrub. I then got in probably the nicest shower I have ever experienced, with water coming from the walls and the ceiling. Once I was dried off and back on the massage table, Jen came in for the massage portion of my treatment. When I tell you I could have fallen asleep during the 60-minute massage, I mean it. Jen used shea butter made with goat milk and sweet vanilla, which smelt divine.
I ended my day at Elaia with a dip in the hot tub — a perfect way to end a truly relaxing day.
