PETALING JAYA (Sept 8): Located on Coronado Island, just off the coast of San Diego, is a “palatial” oceanfront estate known as the “Coronado Castle”.

Built in 1925 by famed architect Richard Requa, it has recently been listed for sale at US$32 million (RM144 million).

According to a report by TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, Coronado Castle is one of the largest properties in Coronado, which has been home to celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Dick Van Dyke, and popcorn-king Orville Redenbacher.

The estate comes with a 14,142 sq ft main house, a guest house, gorgeous grounds with fountains, olive and palm trees, and an enormous pool with an entertainment deck and pool house.

The real estate website stated it “has maintained its historic details but has been updated with all the latest in modern conveniences”.

“The mansion’s turret-shaped entrance hall opens onto a stunning foyer with a spiral staircase and hand-hewn beams,” it added.

Inside, opulent tile flooring, ornate ironwork, and stained-glass touches complement reclaimed 18th-century terra cotta tile. A formal dining room features a stunning hand-painted ceiling and steel-and-glass doors that open onto the pool deck. An immense marble island anchors the entertainment-ready kitchen, which offers a 72-inch La Cornue range and rotisserie, double Subzero fridge, Miele steam oven and coffee station, plus a wet bar.

It also has a basement where a golf simulator, media room with bar, trophy room, 26-seat movie theatre with projector, 1,300 sq ft gym, and a full spa with dry sauna, massage table and ice bath are located.

“Just 100 feet from the shore, the Coronado Castle offers unrivalled beach access with numerous shops, restaurants and live music venues within easy walking distance.

“The historic Hotel Del is only a half-mile walk down the dunes, with the Coronado Yacht Club and Coronado Municipal Golf Course just a few steps farther,” added TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
